I arrive in Kansas City ridiculously early, and find my hotel is very close to the one I used two years ago. So I pop back to the previous turn off and spend an hour or two shopping and drinking coffee. The temperature is up in the sixties now, which is not quite so bad.
When I was rearranging my plans, I found that the Kansas City Royals are at home tonight, to the Toronto Blue Jays. So that’s where I go. I know this is totally indulgent, but it gives me one last look at the game before going home.
I have written before about how lovely Kauffman Stadium is, and it has been renovated in the two years which have since passed. I spend a few minutes enjoying the view, and sizing up the snack options. I decide to exit with flourish, as the bard once wrote, and go with the ribeye stack. This is a burger bun, containing a small ribeye steak, bacon, cheese, mushrooms, tomato and lettuce, topped with an onion ring. As they say in these parts, “Way to go!”
The pregame ceremonies are slightly longer than normal, as we have to hear both anthems. A young soprano performs the Canadian anthem, and the US one comes from a trumpeter.
Toronto has started the season well, and continues their winning ways. The home pitcher does not do well, and Toronto’s early lead is never challenged – final score 8-1 to the Jays.
So I proceed to St. Louis. I am unsure as to what the next two days will hold, and so I may not bother to write again until the end of the trip. I hope you can cope without your daily fix – if not you can always go the website and revisit my former glories. |
