DAY 197
Sunday October 14th
Cleveland, OH to Pittsburgh, PA

Today is a rest day in the Boston v Cleveland series, so I drive the 140 miles to Pittsburgh to spend the day with my old friends Steve and Liz. If you don't know by now who they are, you really haven't been paying attention.

The day is autumnally sunny, the drive is very straightforward, and I'm here by 12.30. We watch some TV, take a long walk along a disused railway line, eat a wonderful home cooked dinner, and spend the evening trying to stay awake. Thrill seekers, it's your day off!

While answering some e-mails, I read an article, sent to me by a friend in England, about the Colorado Rockies. Apparently, their owner, general manager and team manager, along with some of the players, are born again Christians. The club actively recruits Christian players, who are encouraged to attend chapel on Sunday and prayer meetings on Tuesday.
The odd thing is that Major League Baseball does not appear very keen on that, because whenever it is mentioned in an interview, it does not appear on any of the highlight shows. Say what you will, the Rockies have now won 19 of their last 20 games.

Tonight's only game is indeed in Colorado. The stadium in Denver has a reputation as a "hitter's park"; being at altitude, the ball has a tendency to fly further, and statistics for pitchers playing there tend to have a negative skew.

In the bottom of the first, Matt Holliday homers to give Colorado the lead. In the top of the fourth, Mark Reynolds does the same for Arizona, and the game is tied. In the sixth Colorado puts two men on base, and Yorvit Torrealba (yes, that's his real name) homers to put the Rockies 4-1 ahead. That's how it stays, Colorado has a 3-0 series lead, and Arizona is looking down the barrel. Colorado has now won 20 of its last 21 games.
