Letters from Base Camp #5
4th June 2007

Having failed miserably to find a spell check in googlemail I would like to apologise to all Norwegians (to the dyslexics amongst you, it was spelt right).

Pete woke this morning with the joys of spring.

Well, he woke, which was a bonus and he remembered it was the last night he had to wear his patch and that it was only two more days until his next appointment, so there was some joy.

Not much spring though.

After a refreshing shower, and administering his eye drops, I managed to get half a bowl of breakfast cereal down him before his half hour was up and he went face down again.

He has actually stayed awake a bit longer this morning, but more from being uncomfortable rather than not tired.

And looking over, yes…he's gone again.

I am keeping myself busy with little domestic jobs, like washing up our two of everything.

I am also reading all the travel papers lying around and becoming quite knowledgeable about all the places I'm unlikely to see whilst in Albuquerque.

When I was searching the web and found this place, one of the comments that a guest had made was that the fridge freezer kept them awake, and as I lay here in the early hours listening to ours make an awful continuous racket, I got to thinking of the reason why.

After some mental ponderings I got up and turned it up a lot higher, my theory being that we have ours set on 3 at home and the indoor temperature is nowhere as hot as here, so 3 was not going to do the job of keeping this fridge cold enough.

I got back into bed and lay there patiently waiting. About half an hour later there was a loud click as the fridge made a shudder and shut off. How smug was I? The grin on my face stretched the width of my pillow. If only everything in life were so easily sorted.

When Pete woke up I said "listen to that", he said "what" and I said "exactly!"

Of course it does come back on, but hey! It's a fridge.

You might be wondering why I have not mentioned the air con lately, well, that is because since being here we have not had to have it on. Our room seems to be continually in the shade and therefore I've got the window open and it's just lovely.

Oh! he's snoring like a big old bear………bless.

Time for my daily jog, I think I might get a full twenty steps across our new pad, I'll let you know………nope it's still a short run, by trainers kept squeaking on the kitchen tiles so I had to review my route.

Short break - Well it's proving to be an interesting day with various emails and phone calls, thanks everyone for keeping in touch.

The good news is I think there is a definite change for the better. Pete's perkier and something has changed with his vision, so fingers crossed.

We went for a stroll around the hotel complex for about ten or so minutes, just to stretch his legs and change the scene, taking in the trees, shrubs, lavender and pansies (last thing I expected to see) which was very pleasant, even saw a lizard.

He's got a large pair of 'surround a skull' sun shades from the hospital, which make him look like he's ever so slightly special needs, which I suppose he is right now, so they are perfect!

He even suggested we get some work done, in the form of the daily news letter and some emails, which is the first time since I arrived that I haven't had to do the prompting. And he ate a small sandwich of smoked ham with lettuce and a tomato, followed by four teaspoons of ice-cream. Hooray!

Fingers crossed everyone xxxx I think he's on the mend.

And looking over.............yes, it's all been too much, he's spark out again.

The blue-tit signing out.
