Letters from Base Camp #3
1st June 2007
The blue-tit has landed
One small step for woman, one huge step for mankind.
I sent an email out yesterday to a few of you and the comment came back 'this could be fun', so I'm going to repeat yesterday's first so the rest of you can catch up
June 1st
Hello everyone................I don't see why Pete should have all the fun of a group email.
Did you read his last email, cheeky sod.
We had a good laugh this afternoon as he dictated that to me, he's got a bit of colour back in his cheeks.
I've discovered I can do 15 jogging steps from one end of his room to the other. I'm expecting to be a size eight by the time he wakes up.
I've just looked up what side effects his pills can have............explains a lot.
Can't keep awake - may cause drowsiness.
No energy - weakness
Keeps blarting - mood changes
Doesn't fancy food - loss of appetite
Indigestion - may cause upset stomach
Can't see properly - blurred vision
I'm just waiting for the sore throat and itching for the full monty.
What bright spark invented air con?
Too hot if it's off - too cold if it's on, dries out your nose and throat.....good grief!
ooooh! my prince has woken....just off to kiss the last half acre, the rest has been covered.
3rd June 2007
I started my day at midnight having decided I'd take an afternoon kip, Pete said I passed out and started snoring...how cute is that? Mind you how he knows is suspect as he's still sleeping for England.
Those of you who have started jogging up and down your bedrooms may like to prepare a little better than I did and put on a supportive bra.
I am going to take the good advice I have received and keep off the Mexican beans, I had to retreive my bed sheet from three doors away this morning and I know Pete would be grateful.
....and another thing about air con......does it have to be so noisy? I have been putting it on - can't let my man get too hot, not good for the eye - but I did turn it off and open the door this morning to let a nice cool breeze in.
Oh ! he's awake again.......hang on, he's speaking, he's taking in water, he's smiling...................OK he's gone again.......well that's an improvement.
Earlier Pete said he was aching in his shoulders and lower back from being in one position for so long, so I hunted around for something to use as massage oil and I can now advise you all, should you ever be in a similar position, that in preference to toothpaste, vaseline lip balm is just fine if you can squeeze enough of it out.
Contrary to common belief, women can travel very light but in the abscence of a store within walking distance I have to admit I won't be sorry to hit one fairly soon for shower gel and moisturiser. What with Radox for men and Power Hammer, Ultra Max anti-perspirant I smell a bit butch.
My breakfast at 4am, after I had raided the fridge, was a slice of bread and a cheese slice, which was interesting
Yesterday when I was typing Pete's first email since I arrived, I did make the foolish comment, "so you are not going to begin - there was a tap on my door at midnight and there stood an angel?" to which he gave me a one eyed grin and said, "So I let her in to change the towels and continued waiting for Sal" and I knew at that moment my man was on the mend.
Oh, here we go again.....he's awake, he's saying "hello darling", he's yawning.......OK he's off again.
There are huge green interstate signs I can see on the motorway, which runs across from this motel, which give directions to 'Sante Fe' and 'Sante Rose' and suddenly all those old cowboy movies that had me gripped as a kid come alive.
There is also one that says 'Gallop'.... maybe they ran out of good ideas, or maybe someone said, with a cigar butt hanging from his lips, "Well, you can get food in that direction if you gallop" and because of the slight difference in accent, they arrived and said "is this Gallop?" and the residence said "No, but we were wondering what to call it, brilliant, thanks very much, sit yourselves down here and we'll bring you an egg omlette Mexicano with pinto beans as a thank you!"
The greenery is very sparse, probably something to do with being a desert, but what they do have is tastefully done in a Feng Sheui kind of way, with flowering shrubs and thoughtfully placed rocks and pebbles.
Yesterday we heard the church next door before we saw it. It had a full carilon of bells and it was playing a jaunty number which I'm sure we could have sung along to if we had known what it was.
It's a lovely looking building, newly built in a definitely Mexican style. ......
OH! he's awake.........no he doesn't know how to spell Sheui either.......and he's gone again....
so I am planning to have a closer look today before we head off on our adventure to our new abode.
What time is it? this computer is still on English time, it's 2 o clock back home which means time to get this show on the road here.
So until the next installment ... this is 'the blue-tit' signing out |
